RAIDS.co.uk

Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives, RAID, RAID 1, RAID 2, RAID 3, RAID 4 RAID 5 RAID 6, RAID 7, RAID 1+0, RAID 50, whatever you want to call them, they are all Storage Arrays that span multiple drives. You may of noticed that RAID 0 is not here, that is because, a true RAID has built in redundancy, which means that even if one of the hard drives fails, all the data should still be available.

RAID 0 is simply a way of striping data across drives, (normally two drives), but it is done with no spare drive. Data can be spanned over many different types, namely the RAID systems listed above, however each type of RAID has its own way of storing data, and utilising its own Parity.

Example of each type of RAID is shown on the links to the right.
